My No-Buy Year
I’m going to keep this post short and sweet, as I mainly just want to summarise what my ‘no-buy’ year is going to entail and my own rules for it, mainly to hold myself accountable and also for those who are interested in doing their own version of a no-buy!
WHY?
Basically, I’m sick of my own consumerism, is the short and sweet of it. I have been second hand shopping primarily I would say for the past 4 years, however, the problem for me still is I shop far too much. It is a privilege that I can choose to shop new or second hand, it is a privilege I have far too much stuff, and actually the original premise of second hand shopping/charity shops is for those who cannot afford to buy things new/full price. So there is part of me that carries guilt with the fact that I’m not just second hand shopping things I need, I’m second hand shopping things I want when I already have too much - does that make sense?
I am also, with my partner, aiming to buy a house this year, and I don’t want to A) waste money that could go towards a literal roof over my head and B) take excessive amounts of ‘stuff’ into our new space.
THE RULES
So here are the ‘rules’ I have set out to follow for 2022, and just to reiterate, these are personal to me but can absolutely be amended to fit your lifestyle, there will of course be different things dependent on your situation.
NOT BUYING
Clothing, shoes, accessories bought (new or secondhand), unless something literally falls apart.
New/second hand homeware (unless again, something is broken/needed).
Additional beauty/skincare/hygiene products (will explain this below).
EXCEPTIONS
I will be replacing beauty/skincare/hygiene products as/when they run out but not adding more to my collection, I will be selective on what I replace and always look to use up what I have first.
I will still be working with brands as part of my blog, as always they will be brands I love and add value to my life/ are a brand I think my community would also love.
I will still be going out for meals, because I just don’t feel like I can give up my foodie lifestyle!
I have planned to get some beauty treatments done for 2022 which if I feel I have in my budget I will be doing in 2022.
WHAT I’VE BOUGHT IN JANUARY
Raindrop clean soap refills - £13.00
4 Plates (to replace old broken ones) - £10.00
Fake tan (to replace one that I’ve used up) - £5.50
Cetaphil Cleanser (to replace one that I’ve used up) - £9.50
I will be keeping a ‘working’ list on this post for each month so I can see at the end what I’ve bought/spent for 2022. And I think that about covers it! It is something I could talk about extensively so if you have any questions by all means comment below/pop me a message on instagram as I will also be documenting a lot over on there!
