Organic and Sustainable Bedding with Naturalmat

I’ve struggled for so long trying to find sustainable bedding, finding clothes etc is one thing but bedding has been a whole different ball game - that was until I was introduced to Naturalmat.

Naturalmat very kindly sent me one of their gorgeous organic wool duvets and two pillows to review, as someone who tries to be sustainable in as many ways as possible, and also as a serious snooze lover, I feel like it couldn’t be a better combination if it tried.

Using organic wool, Naturalmat duvets and pillows are handmade in Devon. The duvets are quilted and a much lower profile than your traditional plump duvet. This means that they are amazing at regulating temperature, trapping heat when you need it and dispersing it when you don’t.

  • 100% cotton cambric casing

  • Handmade in Devon

  • Completely chemical free

I opted for the 500g Spring/Autumn weight (which is the equivalent to 6-8 Tog in duvet terms) and it’s perfect for us, I am definitely a duvet all year person whereas Fred will have it off him the second he gets to bed when it’s warm outside - this means I can literally wrap myself up in it and the cotton ties at the edge of the duvet makes it super easy to properly snuggle up inside it!

As someone who lives in Cornwall, it’s wonderful to know that the wool inside the duvet and pillows is not only sustainably sourced from Soil Assocation certified farms, Naturalmat buy directly from farmers in Devon, Cornwall and Dorset. By working with certified organic farmers, it means that the health and wellbeing of the sheep is prioritised, and that their farming is undertaken in a way that is friendly to the sheep and the surrounding environment.

Wool is also an incredible fibre that is perfect for filling duvets and pillows, it’s a natural insulator that keeps you warm or cool, thanks to the tiny air pockets within each wool fibre that provide both insulation and breathability. It’s also naturally moisture-wicking and antimicrobial, which means it’s inhospitable for the likes of bed bugs and dust mites, as well being much more odour resistant than a synthetic fibre duvet.

There is also zero plastic involved, from the duvets and pillows themselves to the gorgeous cotton drawstring bag they come in.

So my overall thoughts? If you’re looking for sustainable bedding, handmade with love and created with the planet and animals at the forefront, you are going to LOVE Naturalmat. They also sell the most gorgeous beds and mattresses if your looking for the full works for your bedroom.
