Wild Deodorant - A sustainable swap that works

I’ve been using natural deodorant for around about a year now, and whilst I absolutely loved making the swap, I still felt incredibly guilty every time I ran out as the packaging was plastic and sadly not recyclable. So when Brand Chests got in touch about a collaboration with Wild, I literally jumped at the chance!
Wild have a mission, to shake up the throwaway culture of bathroom products - which is music to my ears to be honest. As someone with an extensive collection of skin care and beauty products, I am always on the hunt for products that not only work well but are as sustainable as they can be. So lets start with the basics about Wild deodorant! You firstly choose your deodorant case colour, this component is made from recycled plastic and anodised aluminium - it’s super light weight and designed to last, it feels very durable (I have dropped mine several times without a mark on it!). The deodorant itself comes in little biodegradable refill packs, which is absolutely genius. The refill packaging can either be recycled with paper/card or can be composted at home if you have your own composting bin. I have seen people have also used them to grow seeds in which is absolutely adorable.
My package was delivered through my letter box, and once you have your deodorant case you will only need to order the refills. I have done an IGTV video showing just how easy it is to set up which you can view here if you want to see how it all works.
There are a variety of scents to choose from - Coconut Dreams, Orange Zest, Bergamot Rituals, Mint Fresh and Rose Blush. I went for the Mint Fresh and it is the most fresh, almost spa-like scent, kind of like smelling mint from your garden.
I had quite literally just run out of my previous natural deodorant, so it came at a perfect time - I made the switch and tested it for a week before writing this blog post as I wanted to try it in all situations to see how how effective it was. I want to add in at this point, if you are a first time natural deodorant user, when first making the switch it can take your body a minute to adjust to it. This doesn’t apply to all people of course, but when I first switched, it took about a week for my body to adjust, and from then on it’s been grand. I just wanted to note that on here as I know some people give up with it after a day or so thinking it won’t work for them, but it’s actually just your body adjusting to not having a ton of chemicals blocking your armpits. Persevere and I promise you’ll never look back is my advice to those of you who may have been put off!
So the week of testing began, and although I work from home at a laptop, I have also been doing a beach clean every evening (my goal is to do 30 during the month of October) and as you can imagine, lugging rubbish about for an hour is a good test for a deodorant’s strength! I am pleased to say, it works an absolute treat. I can still smell mint under my armpits at the end of the day, which is beyond impressive in my book.
FINAL THOUGHTS
As you can probably guess, it’s a massive yes from me, not only is the deodorant absolutely incredible, Wild are a brand we should all be supporting for being so innovative and sustainable. The life span of a plastic deodorant is a staggering 40 years, and with over 250 million bought in the UK every year, that is a lot plastic ending up in landfill. Wild have made it incredibly easy for us to be sustainable, they have thought of every detail and it really shows, the fact you can have a subscription for your refills means you don’t even have to think about it, they will just arrive through your letterbox! Each refill should last you around 4 weeks, I'm nearly at week 2 and I think it may last even longer than 4 weeks to be honest.
